Choosing Game Difficulty
Understand the game's difficulty options: how tough enemies are, whether death drops your backpack, and whether you need food and equipment repairs.
The host changes these options in the game, including after world creation. This site explains them; it cannot change your save.
Start with how you want to play
A preset is a ready-made set of difficulty options. Each card includes its in-game name. You can still adjust individual options afterward.

Combat is too hard. What can I change?
Reduce incoming damage or enemy and boss health. Lower percentages mean smaller values.
| Rule | Options | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Damage to Player Multiplier | 0% / 30% / 50% / 75% / 100% / 150% / 200% | Scales eligible incoming damage. Setting it to 0% permanently affects certain combat achievements in this world. |
| Enemy Health Multiplier | 30% / 50% / 75% / 100% / 150% / 200% | Changes non-boss enemy health. |
| Boss Health Multiplier | 30% / 50% / 75% / 100% / 150% / 200% | Changes boss health independently. |
| Elite Enemies | Off / On | Eligible non-boss enemies gain a half-star marker, stronger stats, and a chance at extra loot from the matching full-star tier. |
| Area Enemy Limit | 50% / 100% / 200% / 300% / 400% | Changes how many ordinary enemies an area can sustain. |
| Area Enemy Respawn Rate | 50% / 100% / 200% / 300% / 400% | Changes how quickly ordinary enemies replenish. |
Do I lose items on death? Do I need food?
Turn off backpack drops to keep your inventory on death. Reduce or disable Food drain to eat less often.
| Rule | Options | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Drop Backpack on Death | Off / On | Controls whether backpack contents are kept after death. |
| Continuous Food Drain | Off / Slow / Standard | Controls Food loss over time, including while idle. |
| Action Food Drain | Off / Half / Standard | Controls extra Food loss from running, mining, combat, and similar actions. |
Constant repairs? Enemies spawning at home?
Disable durability loss, reduce repair costs, or let crafted floors prevent natural enemy spawns.
| Rule | Options | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Durability Loss | Off / On | Controls whether equipment loses durability. |
| Repair Material Cost | 0% / 5% / 35% / 50% | Adjusts the material cost paid when repairing equipment. |
| Craftable Floors Block Natural Spawns | Off / On | Floors made at a Construction Workstation can block natural spawns; summoned and fixed spawns are unaffected. |
What can I change when playing with friends?
The host can control friendly fire and whether players share the host's unlocked comic abilities.
| Rule | Options | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Friendly Fire | Off / On | Controls eligible damage between players in the host's world. |
| Share Host’s Comic Book Knowledge | Off / On | Shares the host's unlocked comic abilities. Personal skills and recipe sharing are separate systems. |
